Our customers tell us that what sets us apart is that we are very accommodating. First of all, we are considered a medium sized mover, with over a dozen full-time employees and own and operate eight trucks. We do not broker or subcontract. You will always have a single point of contact. We will learn your transitional requirements and plan accordingly. Our estimates are very accurate and we always do what we promise.
We are also an interstate agent for Bekins Van Lines, which gives us access to a strong nationwide fleet of professional movers. This helps us better serve you.
The sooner, the better. An exceptional customer experience for the move always starts with a personal visit and site survey. So whether you are moving next week, next month, or next year, the best time to contact us is now. This is because we will help you develop a custom moving plan, and identify and plan for the caveats. We can also help you with downsizing and decluttering. And of course, provide you with our signature guaranteed pricing.
Once we perform the site survey, we will present you with a moving plan and guaranteed pricing. Pricing models are as follows:
Local Moves: These are priced by the hour. We typically flat rate travel time, then track the billable hours for loading and unloading.
Long Distance Moves: Prices are based on weight and distance. We first determine the cubic footage, then use industry standards to estimate the weight. We then provide you with a moving plan and cost estimate. Whenever possible, we will provide a “rate cap,” which is a guaranteed, not to exceed price. Shipments will be weighed utilizing certificated scales, and scale tickets will be available.
A custom moving plan is a written plan specific to your needs. It will include logistics analysis and service dates. , rates, costs for packing options, and will clearly identify what services we will perform and when. Also, it will include any considerations for decluttering, downsizing, donation of unwanted items, and dump runs.
Yes. We are prepared to move during rain, sleet, or snow. However, if possible, one may want to schedule around it. We always watch the weather and will be in contact with you prior to moving day, and will have a dialogue that will cover contingencies. We recommend that you plow, sand, shovel, or otherwise clear the access ways in preparation for our arrival.
Our service is superior to any of the large van lines as is our safety record. Our customers tell us that what sets us apart is that we are very accommodating. First of all, we are considered a medium sized mover, with over a dozen full-time employees and own and operate eight trucks. We do not broker or subcontract. All moves are done with our trucks and our NH based employees. We preform approximately 600 moves per year. The breakdown is about one-third local moves, one-third regional moves and one-third long-distance moves.
If you are unable to take immediate possession of your new residence, your belongings can be stored in our secure, heated warehouse, located at 71 Hobbs St., Conway, NH. We will keep your items safe, warm and dry until you're ready for them. However, you are responsible for the monthly storage charges and charges from the warehouse in-and-out.
No. Our operation is geared to have fewer stops on the truck, so most deliveries happen in days, not weeks like some of the major van lines.
Yes, we can and we love these opportunities. They tend to work well for the client, as we often cost less, and offer conveniences that other carriers cannot offer.
Yes. The Country Picker offers different packing services to fit all types of moves and budgets. Prior to your move, you can choose to pack as much or as little as you want. We can pack the entire shipment, pack only a portion of your belongings or you can pack everything yourself.
Yes, but how much protection you have and its cost to you depends upon the "valuation" program you choose – Full-Value Protection or Released Value Liability (60 cents per pound per article). The release value of 60 cents per pound is included in all moves. It is the lowest level available and is prescribed by law.
The second option is the Valuation Option. The valuation option you select determines the basis upon which any claim will be adjusted and establishes the maximum liability of The Country Picker. Under this protection plan, if any article is lost, destroyed, or damaged while under our care, we will either 1) repair the article to the extent necessary to restore it to the same condition as when it was received by us or pay you for the cost of such repairs, or 2) replace the article with an article of like kind and quality or pay you for the cost of such a replacement. An additional charge applies for this option and is included upfront in every estimate.
These options will be discussed during the site survey and will be spelled out when we present you with your written moving plan and rate proposal.

If you are unable to take immediate possession of your new residence, your belongings can be stored in our secure, indoor climate-controlled storage located at 71 Hobbs St., Conway, NH. Prior to our crew leaving: As part of our procedures, the moving crew will have a job set up sheet that details the important aspects of your move. They will load the proper supplies before they leave the warehouse. Typically the crew leader will call prior to leaving our warehouse Once we arrive to load: Once the crew arrives, they will do a walk-thru and begin. First will be prep work, and inventory if long-distance or warehouse. After the prep work, they will begin loading the truck. Your detailed moving plan will estimate the time they will be loading, and the delivery. Once done loading: The crew leader will do a walk-thru to make sure we have everything. We will then do the necessary paperwork prior to departing.
It is generally OK to leave your clothing in your dresser drawers during the move. Be sure to remove anything from the drawers that is breakable or may roll around or shift during transport, as this can cause damage. If the dresser is particularly large (a triple dresser or part of a large armoire), it is best to at least partially empty it.
Odd sized, smaller boxes like liquor boxes can actually cost you time and money, especially on local hourly jobs, or if your items are coming into storage. Used boxes do not have the structural integrity of a new box, and the odd sizes will take the crew longer to shuttle and stack. We do not recommend them.

Crucial Questions to Ask Moving Companies Prior to Hiring
In general, moving and storage companies are regulated at both the state and federal level. Movers are required to have operation authority and a DOT number. These numbers should be found on their website and any promotional materials. The law also requires that the carrier be fully licensed and insured. To find out if the movers you are considering meet this requirement, make sure to ask the following questions or do the research on your own. As for The Country Picker Moving and Storage, our answers to these important questions are found below:
Yes, the Country Picker Moving has the following coverages, which are also required by state and federal law. They include:
1) Auto liability for the transport truck and trailers.

The Country Picker Moving & Storage is a carrier with an excellent reputation, both locally and nationwide. When vetting a mover, ensure you are talking to the company that actually owns the trucks and employs the movers, rather than a broker who sells your job to the highest bidder. When interviewing local or long distance movers, we recommend the first thing to find out is if they are a carrier (brick and mortar company) and actually operate their own trucks, have their own climate controlled warehouse, and not a “broker’. Brokers do not own trucks. Focus on identifying hidden costs and verifying their legal legitimacy to avoid common moving scams. Brokers will always ask for a deposit, while most trustworthy movers do not require or ask for deposits.
The Country Picker Moving & Storage has operation authority issued from both the Federal Highway Administration for 48 state authority, plus Intrastate operation authority issued by the state of New Hampshire.
When interviewing movers, ask for their USDOT number (for interstate moves) or state-specific license number. You can verify these on the FMCSA website.
Safer.fmcsa.dot.gov – type in the carrier name or DOT number and you can see view their safety performance, which is generated as a result of roadside inspections. If you don’t see roadside inspections, then that company either is a broker, or uses rental trucks to “run under the radar”
Protectyourmove.gov – this site allows you to find any complaints at a federal level. Our feeling is that if a complaint reaches the federal level, that carrier should be eliminated from your search.
